This is a great way to locate targets you cannot actually walk to....
When scanning for targets, especially looking into or across private property, Here is a great way to find out EXACTLY where your target is, without violating any tresspassing laws or getting yourself shot in some parts of the country...
Place 1/2 of some Velcro on top of the H3, just below the power knob...obtain a small digital compass..place the other half of the Velcro on the bottom of the small digital compass and afix it to the top of the H3 when needed....so that where your H3 points you have a rather valid compass reading...
Also carry a small hand held digital GPS unit....total investment for the comass and the GPS is about $175 to $250...depending on your likes and dislikes of features on each unit...
Carry a pen an a small pocket tablet...
Lets say you are out scanning..and you get a hit somewhere inside a large parcel of private land..that is fenced and has locked gates and "no tresspassing" signs all over....and not a house in eye sight....or maybe looking out into a lake or an ocean...
You get a hit...take note of the compass heading...and GPS reading...noting them on your pocket tablet as WAYPOINT # 1 (WYPT #1) for a specific labled location...
Drive down the road a mile or two and take another reading when you hit the target in an area you would suspect it to be at..taking note of WYPT #2 GPS and compas readings...
Lets say you are able to drive all around the target but only within a mile or two square...as is the case in many rual locations...take note on your tablet all 4 WYPT's.... or if you are looking across a body of water... take 3 or 4 WYPT's from the shore and note all the WYPT's data on your tablet....
Now go home and fire up the computer... pull up either Google Earth or Google Maps and using each GPS WYPT place a marker there at each one... then starting with WYPT #1 for that specific target location.. draw a line out on each WYPT recorded compas heading.... and there...where all the lines cross is your target and you haven't violated any tresspssing laws, been shot at or got wet.... LOL....NOW record the GPS reading on Google earth or maps where all the lines meet....and save and print for your records...
Now find the property owner... taking your SIMPLE agreement or contract to come on the property and confirm your readings in phase 1..and phase 2 will actually be the excavation of your target....which all percentages and excavation cost and who will pay what will have been discussed and agreed to when you go to the land owner for the first time with your simple agrement....and armed with the actual location of the target...(On paper)... without setting foot on the property...NEVER SHOW YOUR FINDINGS TO THE LAND OWNER UNTIL YOU HAVE AN AGREEMENT IN WRITTING....But assure the land owner you have visable proof you are willing to show, after everyone concerned has signed the agreement...
Now you have permssion to go on the property.... with your recorded GPS reading where all the lines crossed... you can get very, very close to the actual target location..then using the H3.. finalize the actual target location and began digging under the terms of your simple agreement with the land owner...
If your target is in the water... you can use the GPS reading where your lines crossed and using a boat go to that GPS location and anchor your boat and if shallow enough, begin scubba diving for your target...(here is where an Underwater H3 would be handy)...
I am currently using this exact method to negotiate an agreement on a very, very strong gold and silver hit on private property, within 100 feet of a rual ranch home....Their son has been telling the parents for several years he suspects some Spanish treasure was buried on their property...he has actually metal detected some minor artifacts acording to his mother...I am hopefull we will be able to work out an agreement...this is the real deal...I already know where the target is using the above method and have NOT been on their property yet...
Try it, you'll like it...it sounds like a lot of work...it really isn't... it is rather easy to do......

Way to go Ike! That is a great summary of what to do, I learned the "get it in writting" lesson the hard way and its good advice! Please keep us posted and take pictures! |
